| AKJ introduces innovative line of "GREEN" dust control agents! DC-2008 is a major advancement in dust control technology. This unique, patented product works by allowing a solution of product to effectively impact dust particles to provide point of application dust suppression. The dust particles are captured by the solution of DC-2008 that then is mixed/settles on larger size pieces of the material being treated. Solutions of DC-2008 resist being “wicked into” the internal surfaces of the larger particles resulting in the applied moisture lasting longer before it dries completely – this provides more effective dust control than products that do not have this feature. Dust control using DC-2008 does not stop there – when the solution dries it binds the smaller dust particles to larger pieces of material resulting in downstream dust control. DC-2008 is actually “reactivated” when additional moisture is applied or absorbed from the atmosphere. This “reactivation” provides significant advantages in dust control on storage piles |

| AKJ Comes Out On Top in Head-to-Head Comparisons of Road Dust Abatement! In May of this year, AKJ was given the opportunity to go head-to-head with a competitor to control dust on a haul road at a Kentucky utility. Both companies were assigned a 1 mile strip of road, roughly 40 feet wide. The road was scarified and prepped with fresh gravel prior to treatment. AKJ brought in 2 spray trucks to apply the product. AKJ treated their section of road on 4/20/07 with 7,000 gallons of undiluted RDS-78. A week later, on 4/26/2007, the utility began using the road. The traffic consists of 100 ton trucks going roughly 20 MPH uphill and 45 MPH downhill. Click here to see the pictures taken from behind one of the trucks from the bottom of the haul road all the way to the top. The pictures detail how effective the two treatments were; revealing dust flying up from the first section of road which was treated by a competitor while the second section which was treated by AKJ is perfectly dust free! | Jenike & Johanson independent testing of AKJ's FreeFlow FCA product line The conclusion is that the products containing the FreeFlowTM additive package want to stay on the rail car or coal surface, rather than being wicked into the internal crevices of the coal. Would this feature make a difference in performance or application rates? AKJ Industries contracted Jenike & Johanson, a leading firm in the evaluation of material flow. J&J has been active in evaluating FCA products since the early days of product development for the freeze conditioning market. Samples of the base materials and the base materials with the FreeFlowTM additive package were submitted for “Drop Shatter” testing. J&J direct quote: At the 10.5% moisture content, the control without any FCA was found to be the worst (as expected), in terms of the drop height required for 100% pass through the grates. FreeFlowTM FC-504 at 3 pints/ton performed the best, followed closely by FreeFlowTM FC-504SR at 1.5 pints per ton. |
